Description

Kris Tina Carlston, an attorney and advisor in the BYU Pre-Professinal office and Greg Danklef of HRD present this four-hour workshop on negotiations and conflict management. The purpose of this class is to help participants realize that “negotiation is all around you” and how to successfully manage the negotiation framework to achieve positive, win-win results. Competencies addressed include:

  • Listening and questioning skills
  • When it is best to “anchor”—should you move first, or let the other side?
  • Discovering true interests behind positions
  • The difference between zero-sum and relationship-based negotiating
  • Dealing with hardball tactics
  • Disclosing the “right kind” of internal information
  • Practice for increasing the size of the outcome "pie"
  • Making concessions without “giving away the store”
  • What makes for a good outcome?
